Holiday Jewelry!

I was really inspired to make brass cuffs this season. I have all kinds of vintage jewelry parts, buttons, old earrings and all of the items have a story. I decided to play with some brass cuff blanks. First, I polished them to a satin finish. Then I chose the method or item to embellish them with. I used vintage silk from men's ties. I used a string of beads, gorgeous rhinestone pins, and other surprises.

Just the ticket to cheer up your holiday wardrobe!

A new year

I find myself having dreams about finding piles of small old objects to make jewelry out of. Visiting some cosmic thrift store while I sleep? Life's goodness and business and sundry obstacles have prevented me from uninterrupted time at my work table. I will start out like an archeologist, uncovering the layers of ribbon, metal, plastic doodads, and tools and as my hands pick up the various objects, the stories of the jewelry start taking shape. I really want to etch some designs, but it will take a block of time, so maybe today?

Upcoming Jewelry Shows!

Join me this weekend in Stillwater for the Victorian Christmas at the historic courthouse. I will have new holiday jewelry, soldered glass ornaments, and vintage bookmarks. A beautiful building, strolling guests in Victorian garb, music, a tea room with goodies and many booths with ideas for holiday gifts!

Poetry

I love creating things with my hands. Making jewelry is a wondrous experience with color and texture, surprise and form, beauty and challenge. Also tinkering and chemistry. I have always been too curious for my own good, my virtue and my vice. Before jewelry, my outlet was writing poetry and short stories. I have decided to share them here from time to time. Some may be old...some may be new.

Trip to Prague!

In October I had the good fortune to visit the Czech Republic. I spent most of my time in Prague but also visited Jablonec in northern Bohemia. I brought back new and vintage Czech glass, beads, and found objects! Soon I will post pictures of the trip and new creations. It was so inspiring and beautiful...

Life is what happens...

When you are making other plans..." or at least that is my recollection of John Lennon's lyrics. It sure holds true for this summer. Some beautiful amazing things have happened and some difficult heartbreaks. Through it all, I create more jewelry, but have definitely neglected this web site.

St. Paul Art Crawl this weekend!

Let the party begin! If you live in the Twin Cities area, please stop by and say hello at my booth. I will be at the Lowertown Loft Apartment Building, in the lobby, Friday 6-10, Saturday 12-8, and Sunday 12 -5. I will have many new items not yet available on the web site, that I have been working feverishly on for several months.

It is always a good time and Christine and her gang provide wonderful cupcakes and other fun excitement. Many other artists will be there as well.

Dates for the show are April 27, 28, and 29.

See you there!

A long time coming...

Well, I am finally going to kick this site into gear. Yes, I know, I am a better jewelry maker than I am a web site builder. Thank you to my wonderful son-in-law for his help with my low tech understanding of such things. (He has the patience of a saint.) I hope that you will enjoy the new things that I have been making, I have been having a great time producing them.

I am on a mission to use some of the wonderful inventory of stones, pearls, artifacts, gizmos and gadgets that I have been collecting.

Please send me your thoughts!

A little about Lucero Jewelry

Lucero in Spanish is the word for morning star, which is actually the Planet Venus. The sign for the planet is the same as the sign for copper. That is also the sign for female. ♀ As is customary for Spanish words, it also has several other beautiful meanings, such as the light coming through a window, the star on a horses forehead, and a fallen angel.
